Adversity Labs LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Dial mobile application ("App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our App.

By using Dial, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.

When you create an account and use the App, we collect:

  • Self-reported daily screen time estimates

  • Brain fog frequency assessments

Authentication Data:

  • Unique device identifiers
  • App version and installation ID

1.3 Screen Time Data

Through Apple's ScreenTime API (FamilyControls, DeviceActivity, and ManagedSettings frameworks), the App accesses:

  • List of installed applications
  • App usage duration and frequency
  • Pickup counts and notification counts
  • App categories

Important: Your screen time data is processed locally on your device using Apple's privacy-preserving ScreenTime API. We do not have access to view, download, or share your individual app usage details. This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

1.4 Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect:

  • Precise geolocation data
  • Contents of your communications in other apps
  • Photos, videos, or other media files
  • Contacts or calendar information
  • Financial information (payment processing is handled by Apple)
  • Specific websites you visit (only category-level blocking is supported)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

2.1 Provide and Improve the Service

  • Authenticate your identity and manage your account
  • Enable app blocking and restriction features
  • Generate personalized usage insights and analytics
  • Process Undial purchases and manage Strict Mode sessions
  • Improve App functionality and user experience

2.2 Communication

  • Send authentication codes and security notifications
  • Respond to your support requests and inquiries
  • Send important updates about the App or policy changes
  • Deliver usage reports and insights (if you opt in)

2.3 Analytics and Research

  • Analyze aggregate usage patterns to improve the App

  • Conduct internal research on digital wellbeing

We only use anonymized and aggregated data for research purposes. Individual user data is not shared or published.

3. How We Store and Protect Your Information

3.1 Data Storage

All user data is stored securely using Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure:

  • Authentication Data: Managed by AWS Cognito with industry-standard encryption
  • User Profile Data: Stored in secure AWS databases with encryption at rest and in transit
  • Local Data: Authentication tokens are stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL)
  • Encryption of data at rest
  • Secure authentication using JSON Web Tokens (JWT)
  • Regular security audits and updates
  • Access controls limiting employee access to user data

However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

3.3 Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. Specifically:

  • Account Data: Retained until you request account deletion
  • Usage Analytics: Retained for up to 2 years for service improvement
  • Transaction Records: Retained for 7 years for tax and accounting purposes
  • Authentication Tokens: Automatically expire and are refreshed periodically

4. How We Share Your Information

4.1 Service Providers

We share information with third-party service providers who assist us in operating the App:

  • AWS (Amazon Web Services): Provides cloud infrastructure, authentication (Cognito), and database services
  • Apple: Processes in-app purchases through the App Store

These providers are contractually obligated to use your information only to provide services to us and must protect your information consistent with this Privacy Policy.

4.2 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to:

  • Court orders, subpoenas, or legal processes
  • Government investigations
  • Requests from law enforcement
  • Protection of our rights, safety, or property

4.3 Business Transfers

  • Anonymize any remaining usage analytics

5.4 Opt-Out of Communications

You may opt out of non-essential communications by:

Note: You cannot opt out of essential service communications such as authentication codes or critical security updates.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, we will delete that information immediately.

While the App does not have an explicit age restriction for users 13 and older, parents and guardians should monitor their children's use of screen time management tools.

7. International Users

The App is operated in the United States, and your information is stored on AWS servers located in the United States. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws, you may have additional rights under regulations such as GDPR.

If you are in the EEA or UK, you have additional rights including:

11. Apple's ScreenTime API Privacy

The App uses Apple's ScreenTime API frameworks (FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, DeviceActivity). Important privacy considerations:

  • Data Processing: Screen time data is processed locally on your device
  • No Cloud Sync: Your app usage details are not synced to our servers
  • Apple's Control: Apple's privacy policies govern the ScreenTime API
  • Opaque Tokens: The App uses privacy-preserving tokens that prevent us from identifying specific apps you use

12. Data Breach Notification

In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will:

  • Notify affected users within 72 hours of discovering the breach
  • Provide details about what information was compromised
